For Chad Reichhold, baseball has been a constant in his life ever since he was young. He always loved playing sports and his parents provided him ample opportunities to play, but a heart condition eventually prevented him from playing any contact sport or a sport that required extended periods of intense conditioning. However, his doctor was willing to let him play baseball.

“Since it was basically the only sport I could play, I really tried to put my all in it and do it to the best of my ability,” Reichhold said.

In his early teens, Reichhold started to realize he wanted to play baseball at the college level. He had started playing travel ball and could see a skill gap growing between his hometown teams and players and his travel ball competition and teammates.

Delaware Tech turned out to be the best opportunity for Reichhold to not only continue playing baseball, but to continue his education.

“Baseball led me here but the opportunities that the College offers are far greater than many other options that I had,” Reichhold said. “On top of learning specific information and skills in courses that you take, it is just as important to make connections, learn how to communicate, and take on a new level of responsibility.”

Reichhold originally enrolled as a general business major, but when he took an accounting class in his first semester he felt something click and he decided he should change majors.

“I’ve always wanted to pursue something I felt I was good at,” Reichhold said. “When I took that class I was interested and I liked how everything had a right and a wrong answer to it. I started looking into accounting more and found a love for it.”

Eventually, Reichhold is hoping to combine his interests and work as an accountant for a sports team. After graduation, he intends to transfer to a four-year institution to major in accounting. He also wants to continue playing baseball.
